Magnitude 6.0 earthquake recorded off central Chile coast
The tremor occurred at approximately 21:34 GMT and was centered about 33 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Valparaiso, one of Chile’s principal port cities.
The USGS reported that the earthquake originated at a depth of roughly 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) beneath the Earth's surface.
Authorities did not immediately report any fatalities, injuries, or major structural damage following the quake.
Chile is among the world's most earthquake-prone countries due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region where several tectonic plates meet and generate frequent seismic activity.
