Peruvian Army hosts U.S., Chile, Argentina for SV26 in the Amazon Jungle

SAUCE, Peru-Nearly 400 warfighters from Peru, the United States, Chile, and Argentina joined together on Sept. 7 in Sauce, Peru to train together in the Amazon Jungle for Exercise Southern Vanguard 2026 (SV26). The exercise objectives of SV26 are focused on enhancing combined staff operations, fires planning, and maneuver coordination through the Military Decision-Making Process while establishing a Peruvian-led combined task force and closing interoperability gaps in human, procedural, and technical domains.

The training audience was split into multinational groups that were led by Peruvian Jungle instructors at the Jungle School (Escuela De Selva). The training spanned over 6 days and included jungle swimming techniques, waterborne operations, jungle survival and jungle movement tactics.

In the next few days, soldiers will move into a culminating 3-day field training exercise (FTX), where each multinational training group will be put through a series of challenges while navigating the unforgiving terrain of the Amazon Jungle. This exercise will be a test of grit, determination and resiliency of each individual soldier, as well as strengthen interoperability between participating nations.
