UN General Debate Opens with Focus on Restoring Trust
The 81st session will gather heads of state and government to discuss a broad range of international issues, including security concerns, geopolitical developments and economic challenges facing the global community.
This year’s official theme is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all,” highlighting the organization’s stated focus on rebuilding confidence while addressing major global changes.
The debate will open in the General Assembly Hall in line with established diplomatic practice. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is expected to deliver the first address, followed by US President Donald Trump as the leader of the host country.
The opening session will feature several prominent international leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, Jordanian King Abdullah II and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.
Further speeches during the session are scheduled to come from Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori, Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Angolan President Joao Lourenco.
